Lamssu

The Winged Lion at the Assyrian royal court in Nineveh was a significant sculpture. Nineveh, known in 1800 BCE as a place of worship, was later known as an “exceeding great” city in ancient Assyria on the eastern bank of the Tigris in what is now Mosul, Iraq. Visiting the ruins of Nineveh, I admired its beautiful sculptures and wall etchings which made a deep impression on me as evidence of one flourishing and powerful ancient empire.
